Twitter has been busy

Twitter’s retweet functionality has returned to the way it was before. You can now go back to retweeting without first being forced to reckon with the thought that they might have nothing to add to the conversation. Twitter is also testing ‘humanization prompts’ in an effort to reduce toxic replies. This is to help you remember that there are actual people on the other side of your replies. Twitter will show you personalized funny tweets so you can see them before they end up on Instagram meme accounts. Read more here

Netflix adds Zimbabwean billionaire Strive Masiyiwa to its board.

Recall that In 2018 Twitter added former Nigerian finance minister, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, to its board. Earlier this year, three Africans including Kenya’s Maina Kiai, a human rights defender, were appointed as members of the newly created Oversight Board for Facebook and Instagram Content. Strive Masiyiwa has experience in the African Pay-TV sector through his dealings in Econet Media which operated the “Kwese” brand. With him, Netflix is looking to gain some advantage over South African-based Showmax and Nigeria’s IROKOtv. Read more here
