Weekend Agenda: Gratitude, Going Abroad And Top Events

How often do you say thank you?

Life may not seem like much and you may never have everything you want, but if you look a little closer, you’ll find reasons to be thankful – for little, everyday things and the occasional ‘big’ blessings. Being alive, for example, is a purpose for gratitude commonly taken for granted.

And gratitude isn’t just random niceness that means nothing in the scheme of things. When you give back by giving thanks or being generous, you make your life better.

It’s time you took a break from complaining and started a gratitude revolution in your life. Look closer and you’ll always find a reason to say thank you.

Here are five other things worth noting this weekend:

1. Fringe Connections

It’s great to know people well, like friends and family, but the people we don’t know well (otherwise known as acquaintances or “weak ties”) can be very valuable in our lives. Learn how to get the best out of these fringe connections.

2. Stories To Remember

From open heart surgery to love, the legacy of General Magic, Hollywood’s most remarkable voice, the world’s most expensive goalkeeper and a dance from the soul.

3. Go International

Beiersdorf, the German company that makes Nivea skincare products, is offering a three-month internship in Thailand, Chile or the USA. See if you’re eligible to apply here. The deadline’s this Saturday, so, hurry.

Startup founders can now apply for a chance to participate in Blackbox Connect, a two-week residential program holding this November in San Francisco. Everything else you need to know is here.

From now till August 17, Merck Accelerator is looking for startups to join its Lagos satellite program. Benefits include a $3,000 cash prize, office space for a year and a fully-paid trip to the Merck Innovation Center. See details.

4. Weekend Vibes

Lekki Escape is offering a one-day getaway this Saturday. It’s pretty packed, so you won’t have a shortage of things to do.

5. Bonus Points

Neverthink (AndroidiOS) was made to help you lose your way and do nothing useful for a few hours. Try it, it’s like TV for the Internet.
